A Few Words from Therapist Attendees:

“This was a very practical, learning by doing, experiential time of learning together about tender feelings that lie under our conflict.”

“This was hugely transformational for my husband and I.”

“My husband and I gained soo much insight to get out of and stay out of that awful “stuck” place. As a professional I now have inside feeling as well as insight to help others much more. But a surprising thing has happened. This has helped me with individuals as well. My ability to provide empathy and broaden my skill with processing others’ emotions has been a big benefit for me and my clients. Thanks for the help that you provided in a great caring and supportive environment.”

Learning to build bonds that will last a lifetime, you will be assisted by Cynthia and Joseph, both highly trained EFT therapists who apply these same techniques in their own practices. Gain a better understanding of the neurobiology behind this new science of love. And leave with the effective treatment methods to:

  • Recognize the ‘demon dialogues’ that all couples get caught in and discover what they are really trying to say to each other
  • Explore the feelings and needs underneath their behaviors
  • Deepen both emotional and physical intimacy
  • Repair and forgive old attachment injuries
  • Build deep emotional connection and create the safe harbor relationships are meant to be.

Q: How long does your workshop last?

A: We meet on Saturday from 9am-5pm Pacific Standard Time (US), through online video chat. We finish on Sunday from 9am-5pm PST.

Q: Is this a residential workshop?

A: No.

Q: Where is the workshop held?

Seattle, WA. See more location details on our Registration page.

Q: Does HMTS use EFT? What is EFT?

A: Yes. EFT or Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples is a highly researched and empirically validated couple therapy approach. EFT has been shown to be effective with over 70% of the couples who seek it out. EFT combines experiential emotion focused work with family systems. Grounded in Attachment Theory EFT produces change through corrective emotional experiences which unblock vulnerable hidden primary emotion in a safe, measured and progressive manner. Follow-up studies of couples who partake of individual EFT therapy demonstrate couple satisfaction at 3 years post therapy.

Q: What style of workshop does HMTS conduct?

A: The heart of the HMTS workshop revolves around 7 experiential private couple breakout sessions. Each session is professionally facilitated by Joseph and five other highly trained EFT couples therapists, who is recognized by the International Centre of Excellence in EFT as a fully Certified EFT couples therapist. Our HMTS workshop also utilizes, a lively mix of PowerPoint discussion, video demos, and safe group process and discussion. No death by PowerPoint.

Q: Does HMTS use the methods of Dr. Susan Johnson, the primary creator of EFT?

A. Yes. As fully credentialed and highly trained EFT practitioners with thousands of hours in EFT training and clinical practice we largely base our workshops from the original HMT workshop designed by Dr. Johnson. We have made enhancements over the years we have offered the workshop.

Q: What is the satisfaction rate of couples who partake in the workshop?

A: Self- Evaluations from the couples that have completed our workshops have demonstrated a satisfaction rated of over 85%.

Q: Will participants be required to do much writing?

A: No. But many of our participants take generous notes in provided workshop booklet, or in their own notebooks.

Q: Is HMTS appropriate for couples in crisis?

A: Every couple is different. Every couple crisis presents different challenges. If you feel like you are in crisis, we recommend that you call us and describe your situation. Only with a good assessment of your current challenge will we be able to fully assess the fit of the workshop for you. We may suggest an intensive session before coming to the workshop to better prepare you to gain the maximum benefit the workshop can offer.

A: We strongly believe so. Several same sex couples have progressed through our workshop. Please see our latest video testimonial for the thoughts of one of those couples.

Q: Is HMTS appropriate for couple with an active addiction (behavioral or substance) or domestic violence present in their relationship?

A: No. We encourage those that are experiencing addiction addiction to seek trained addiction counselors. We encourage those that are experiencing domestic violence, that is situational in nature to contact at EFT therapist trained in working with Situational Partner Violence. EFT has been shown in studies to be effective in successful working through that challenge. Intimate Partner Violence should not be treated in couples therapy and needs trained individual attention.
